Sustainable,  eco-friendly  yarns from  ethically  raised  fibers.

Natural dyes, or natural colours
At Joybilee Farm we believe that wonderful clothing begins with happy animals and sustainable land.  We raise our own mohair, angora, and wool.  We specialize in naturally coloured animals and natural dyes.  Our handspun yarns are processed by hand from the shearing to the finished yarn.  Our custom mill spun yarns are processed in small batches on antique mill equipment in Western Canada.

We use natural dyes because they are eco-friendly, kind to the environment, the dyer and the person that wears them.  They are more aesthetically pleasing because the natural dye molecule contains many complex colours, not the single colour of chemical dyes.  They are enduring and were the only dyes for 6,000 years of human culture.  By wearing naturally dyed colours we walk an ancient pathway and connect with history and culture.

Natural dyes are also unique and always one-of-a-kind.  The dye bath is never exactly the same from one day to the next.  The colours obtained from plants are affected by climate, growing season and the dye bath itself.  Every dye vat is a new, exciting adventure.

When you spend your precious time you want to use the best so that your project will be beautiful and enduring.

Novelty yarns and angora yarns should be knit at a looser gauge to show off the yarn texture and to allow the angora halo to develop fully, so use the larger needle size!
